The FN 509 is a striker-fired (SA), recoil-operated, semi automatic pistol developed by Fabrique Nationale Herstal (simply called FN), the most popular firearms producer from Belgium. The FN509 was first introduced in 2017, but the pistol is extremely popular even today, especially in the field of mid-size handguns. This particular model is built on the architecture of the popular FNS Compact. However, FN made changes internally and externally to meet the rigorous performance standards of the MHS (Modular Handgun System) competition requirements and further developed the platform into the FN 509 with the help from industry experts.

The FN 509 is chambered for the 9x19mm Parabellum. The pistol also comes in a couple of other versions such as Compact, Tactical, Midsize, and Compact Tactical, all of which also rely on the use of the 9mm caliber. The basic FN 509 model features a double stack magazine that takes in up to 17+1 rounds of ammo.

The FN 509 - 4’’ comes with a 4 inch long barrel and the pistol’s overall length is 7.4 inches, which is why the model 509 is considered a full size handgun. However, as the pistol isn’t actually that big, it can be utilized for concealed carry, especially when paired up with a custom FN 509 holster. Just like most other striker-fired pistols, the FN 509 is also fully made of polymer. The pistol also features front and rear slide serrations and a 3-dot sight system.
