FN FNS 9 Review

The FNS-9 4″ has a shape, length, width and unloaded weight that matches the Glock 19. They’re both striker fired 9mm pistols. There are some aesthetic differences, of course.

Beyond that, the FNS-9 is almost exactly like a Glock 19…except slightly better in almost every way.

Since cops started carrying handguns, their needs and preferences have driven the defensive handgun market. Recently, FN America launched its new 509, the result of a million rounds of testing and development, and the company aims at equipping law enforcement with the new gun. This drive is not new. Its last major introduction, the FN America FNS-9, is a perfect example of this trend, and FN continues to sell the FNS-9 as another duty option. The FNS-9 incorporates many features attractive to law enforcement agencies, and these same attributes make the pistol just as appealing to armed citizens and competitive shooters.

I’m a polymer-framed 9 mm pistol kind of guy. Well, at least I fancy myself one. Truth be told, I haven’t shot enough of them to have the depth of experience to really qualify as a polymer pistol “guy.” But I’m working on it. And when Nick threw me the keys to his FNS 9 for an unspecified amount of time, it seemed like a good time to put another check on the list. Who knew that I’d find a new favorite polymer gun in the process? .
